Origami Review

In the documentary "Between the Folds", self- established Origamist's express their passion behind the art of origami. These artists explain how their dedication for the evolution of origami has expanded the world- wide appreciation for the art form, and in itself is " making math happy." The establishment of origami began with Akiro Yashizawa and his belief that his purpose in life is to,"interpret the world through paper." The idea that origami is planning paper mathematically, and geometrically, but with improvisation, is similar to jazz. This is something that I can relate to because I have recently taken an interest in jazz vocal studies. Jazz improvisation allows musicians to express themselves without limit or accusation. It was surprising to see that this was something that is a part of origami;that the harmonic ratios of an origamist's folding patterns, are the same rhythmical numbers that inspire musicians. Also that both art forms require the artist to allow emotion to be what develops them to the next level of extemporization. I appreciated this documentary because it exposed me to another art form that brings life to paper, and helps me to appreciate the exploration of math and  paper.
